| We welcomed Meatball on June 10th, she was surrendered by her owner that could no longer care for her. She is at a healthy weight but has a severe skin infection that left her with almost no hair on her back and green pus coming from her eyes from the swelling. She tested negative for mange and we are waiting results from the ringworm test. She is happy and outgoing, loves to go for walks. Meatballs in on 30 days of antibiotics and antiseptic baths every week. | |
| | Everybody meet RIO! We welcomed her from the SPCA Gatineau as she was expecting some puppies. On sunday June 2nd, labor started at 4am under my watchfull eye and went on until 4pm when she gave birth to her last puppy.
Rio will be with us in the nursery for 8 weeks to raise her family in a quiet loving place. We have 6 boys and 3 girls and they are all cute as can be. She is doing a great job handling everything on her own like a pro. The SPCA Gatineau will be hosting an adoption day at a local Petsmart, details to come.
Donation of puppy pads, puppy toys, laundry soap to wash the linnens are much needed. |
| | La Peche man drowns in creek behind his house
BY DOUG FISCHER, OTTAWA CITIZEN MAY 20, 2013
OTTAWA — A 73-year-old La Peche man drowned in the creek behind his home Monday afternoon when he lost his footing while trying to cross to the other side to get his dog.
“The water was not very deep but the side of the creek was very steep and the bottom was very slippery, and we think he was too weak to get out,” said Staff Sgt. Stéphane Forget of the MRC des Collines. “He wanted to get his dog.”
This tragic story hits home for us at the rescue. The dog he was trying to get was Esther, a girl from our rescue he adopted a year ago. Henri loved this dog more than life itself, she meant everything to him. I often saw Henri on the porch with Esther at his feet as they lived in our village. Esther will be lost without him. We extend our deepest sympathies to Jeanne, his kids, his grandchildren and to Esther who just lost her night in shining armour. Esther will be continued to be loved and cared for by her family. | |

| | One day, I meet a wonderful lady named Laurie Sweig a singer songwriter with a guitar in hand and a mountain of talent. Laurie www.lauriesweigmusic.com wrote a song in honor of her rescue dog Lance. Laurie's dream was to help rescue dogs with this song. Well , you know me, my mind went nuts. If we could sell this song for $1.....how many dogs could we help? The sky is the limit. So she gracefully donated the song to us, Under My Wing Pug Rescue and Puppy Mill Awarness to use as we wish. The plan: sell the song to raise money for the 3 groups. What could I do? So i put and add in the local paper to ask for help. Then another Angel walked in: Lisa Hopkins from HopsVox productions. She made this amazing video about our shelter. It is on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY5lV3w0IW4 Can't wait to see what my crazy mind will come up with next. |
